Cloves enhance any sweet or savory dish, and are used as much whole as ground. This spice compliments beef, ham, hot cider, sweet sauces and many apple dishes. Grown in the Molucca islands of Indonesia, whole cloves are the unopened buds of a native evergreen, they are found in traditional dishes such as garam masala, biryani, and pickles. In the United States, cloves are commonly found in meats, salad dressings, and desserts, as well as being a key ingredient in ketchup.
